At just nine months old, little Bani's life took a heartbreaking turn. While crossing railway tracks with her herd in Uttarakhand, she was hit by a train—a tragic consequence of increasing human-elephant conflict. In the chaos, her herd fled, leaving the tiny calf injured, paralysed, and alone.

She was later found lying helpless beside the tracks, unable to stand, with visible wounds and trauma. The collision had caused extensive damage: paralysis in her hind limbs, fractures in her spine, inflammation near her hips, and painful abrasions on her frail body. By the time she was brought to the safety of the Elephant Hospital Campus, Bani was already suffering from muscular atrophy and bed sores due to prolonged immobility.

Despite the unimaginable pain, Bani’s spirit has shown incredible resilience. Today, under expert care, she is slowly healing—comforted by the warmth of the sun on her skin, the joy of dust baths, and her love for bananas and green fodder.

But her journey is far from over.
